Boric led an event at the Carabineros Training School together with the Commander of the Carabineros, General Ricardo Yañez, and the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá.

He explained that 509 future graduates of this center will carry out their practical training in this area, as part of an initial reinforcement of the so-called Streets without Violence plan. This group will be joined by another 400 officers in a second stage to increase surveillance and patrolling, especially at night.

Another contingent of 760 troops will be formed with the reassignment of carabineros located in various regions of the country, said the president, who reiterated his determination to put an end to the scourge of growing violence in Chile’s metropolitan area.

Operation of Carabineros in Chile,
Centauro Section arrested 2 subjects who, after evading a checkpoint and trying to injure a Carabinero, were inspected and found 215 doses of cocaine in their possession and a firearm with ammunition. Both detainees were brought to justice.

From 13 to 16 July, two mass killings were committed in the capital’s districts, including that of four teenagers aged between 13 and 17.

While these events caused a great shock in society, violent criminal acts, many of them involving the use of firearms, are almost a daily occurrence, due to the actions of gangs associated with organized crime.

Regarding this problem, President Boric acknowledged that it is a difficult task to which they are devoting the maximum resources and tools available to the state.

Another measure recently announced by the head of the Palacio de La Moneda was the creation of a maximum-security prison, whose future location in the commune of Santiago Centro raised a bitter controversy between the Executive and the municipality.
